My Summary
About Me
Updated June 23
I have 2 daytime vacancy for Thursday
I have 1 space Friday.
Hello, my name is Joanna Day. I am a 44 year-old mum of two lovely daughters aged 15 and 12. I live with my husband in a house we bought, with childminding in mind. We also have a fantastic dog called Pippin and our lovely indoor rabbit Nico. I am fully registered with Ofsted and received Good and Outstanding ratings. I used to teach Early Years, Reception and primary aged children and continue to have a real passion for teaching and nurturing children. I have been childminding for over 10 years now.
I am a very creative person and love doing hands on activities with children. I am fascinated by nature and our local environment. I love going for walks and being out and about with my own children. We love making natural art using sticks and leaves, taking bark rubbings and much, much more.
I carry out planned, daily activities that are tailored to different learning objectives, abilities and ages. These activities and learning outcomes are fed back to parents via an emailed daily diary and updated on individual learning journals. Through a designated and safe Early Years programme, parents can see emailed daily photos and even add parental notes too.
I have a dedicated, vibrant and stimulating children's playroom which is inspired by Montessori approaches to learning. We have a lovely child friendly garden. Children are encouraged to become independent learners.
I regularly attend the various toddler and village groups, go for trips to the park, zoo, woods and library.
I will provide healthy, home cooked meals.
I have experience in cooking meals for people with food allergies.
I have set my home up so that it is a warm, safe and happy environment for children. I hope that in doing so, you as a parent will feel that it is a home-from-home setting where your child is nurtured and cared for.
I am now set up and able to use the new Tax Free childcare scheme.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Joanna looked after our 16 month old for 6 months. She is very punctual, administratively diligent and communicates important information well. The Babydays platform Jo uses was great as it shows how our little one progressed with cool pics in a diary format. Joanna takes pride in her work and she really cares for children. I would recommend Joanna Day to friends and family wholeheartedly.
Jo has taken care of our daughter on a part time basis for the last year, from around her first birthday. She is incredibly thoughtful and creative in her approach, undertaking a wide range of activities with the children which link into different themes. She provides a warm and stimulating environment for the children at her home, and is clearly passionate about children and early years education.
Our daughter has always loved her time with Jo, and benefited from the variety of local fodder groups and activities she attends with her.
We receive a detailed report each day, often including photos on videos, via Jo's secure online platform, including details of the healthy home cooked food she provides.
We couldn't recommend Jo highly enough, she is reliable and professional, and we feel very lucky to have her taking care of our daughter.
We highly recommend Jo as a childminder. She has looked after our son for over a year for at least two days a week since he was one and we are going to miss her very much when we relocate.
Jo always puts in 100% into everything whether that be the nutritious meals she makes, the weekly themes (e.g. “Spring”) and activities she plans, listening to your child’s needs/interests and tailoring the childcare accordingly, the daily diaries with photos and videos, crafts, trips to the park, feeding the ducks, playgroups in the village, Whipsnade Zoo - the list really is endless!
Jo’s experience with children and working as a teacher is very evident and she places a strong focus on development which is present in the various activities and communication through the diary and two year progress report. We feel that our son has directly benefitted from Jo’s experience and we are very happy with his development, his independence and the skills he has learnt directly from Jo’s setting.
We always feel completely comfortable leaving our son in Jo’s care and, as a mum, it made the transition of going back to work that much easier. Jo was always very thoughtful to give me an update, especially in the early days and settling in sessions or when he was more sensitive, so I was reassured that he was well and happy. Her genuine fondness for the children she looks after always comes across and she often recalls funny stories about little things that have happened in the day which I always really cherish.
It is going to be very hard to find someone like Jo when we relocate – any child or family would be very lucky to call her their childminder.
Jo took care of my daughter Annabelle for around 18 months from when Annabelle was one and until she started pre school. She still provides emergency cover and half term cover for me now.
I was always very happy with how Annabelle was being cared for, Jo does a range of thoughtful and creative activities with the children and themes her activities to tie in together, and she attends play groups, story times and a range of outdoors activities as well from feeding the ducks to visiting the soft play.
I always felt that Annabelle was very engaged and that she had a good mix of outdoor, indoor and educational activities.
Jo also completes an online diary and adds pictures so you can always see what your little ones have been up to which is lovely.
Jo's home is very geared up for child minding and she has a nice area which is just for the kids and a good range of toys and crafts.
Jo has a very nice way with the kids, my daughter was very shy when she started and we moved her from a nursery setting as it did not suit her, but under Jo's care she really came on leaps and bounds, and Jo was also very helpful to me with things like potty training and supporting things I was doing at home with Annabelle.
I can't recommend her enough my daughter was very happy during her time with Jo.
Jo has looked after my daughter since she was 10 months old and she is fantastic. From the moment I stepped into Jo's house, I was taken by the warmth of her home environment, the welcome I and my daughter received from her family, and the range and creativity of the activities she clearly does with the children she cares for: sensory boxes, playing in the garden, various outings, feeding the village animals. She has shown the highest level of care and attention, listening carefully to and enacting all of my requests/routines/requirements and showing the utmost affection and warmth for my daughter (who absolutely loves her days with Jo and is thriving there!). She is professional, organised, and evidently knowledgable in the development of small children. She frequently displays how well she knows my daughter and I am daily assured that she is in safe hands.
