Nanny to our son for 21 months

Zdenka has been a full time nanny for our little boy for almost two years. She has cared for him for 50 hours per week since he was 9 months old. We are now in a position where we are moving home (otherwise I am sure that she would still be working for us).

Zdenka has provided wonderful care for our son throughout that time and he will miss her enormously. I work long and odd hours and she has been incredibly flexible and thoroughly dependable. Zdenka truly adores working with children and builds a rapport with them very early. She comes up with endless ideas to keep them entertained and to encourage their development. From the perspective of parents, on a practical level she cooks nutritious and fresh food daily and keeps the kitchen spotless after using it. She gets out and about to play groups, parks, play centres and play dates every day; she is excellent at giving our son opportunities to socialise with other children and learn from them.

Whichever family Zdenka goes to next, they will have a wonderful nanny and i'm sure their children will adore her as much as our son does. I have provided a full reference to Zdenka if anyone should wish to see it.

Dropped out a month before start date

We had engaged with this nanny six months before start date, she accepted four months before start date and then dropped out a month beforehand. She left us in a very difficult situation in which, due to holiday commitments, we had to find a new nanny within one week! The experience was extremely stressful for us. While she was initially very apologetic, when asked if she would consider paying us the money back for the settling in day (some nannies don't even charge for this) her responses turned somewhat unprofessional and disrespectful, saying her day would have been better spent studying and that the "advice" she gave us was worth more than the money we paid her - a strange response given that she was interviewing for a job and not employed as a consultant. She also argued she wasn't looking for a job when we approached her and that she believes she made the right decision by dropping us. Any professional person would have responded in a more respectful manner, given the desperate situation she had left us in. We were thoroughly disappointed with her and believe we had a lucky escape in the end...

The timing on this job unfortunately didn't work out for us,
They kept trying to reduce the salary offer and I wasn't in a position to be able to just sit around not working for a long time until their job stared.

We dont want to sell other people that have been a great babysitter for us short, but Zdenka was definitely one of the best people we have met so far. Our one year old son had lots of fun, learned a lot. Zdenka couldn't have been more dedicated and professional.
