Mel has been childminding my son Darragh (11 months old) since November 2014. She looks after him for 3 days each week.
I have been extremely happy with the care Darragh has received, and the great progress he has made whilst in Mel’s care. Mel’s home is always welcoming, clean and well organised and Darragh has great fun playing with all the toys available and with the other children in her care. Beyond all this though, it is Mel’s warm and friendly approach which sets her apart from other childminders we have experienced.
She provides a wide, fun range of activities including plenty of outdoor exercise. I know Darragh has recently enjoyed sand and water play, drawing and sticking, reading and puzzles as well as outings to the park, and to various nursery groups throughout the week. Darragh particularly loves arts and crafts and Mel always makes the effort to help with making/decorating seasonal cards/presents. For example Mothers Day/Fathers Day.
Mel is a great communicator and has no trouble in gaining Darragh’s confidence and therefore encouraging good behaviour and kindness and compassion to others, both skills which are important to us at home. When Darragh is hurt or feeling under the weather I know that he feels happy to be comforted by her and I am confident that she can administer either first aid or medication following all the correct procedures and completing the necessary records to ensure his health and safety.
Mel provides a variety of healthy meals snacks throughout the day. I am also aware that Mel ensures good personal hygiene in encouraging all the children to wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet. I’m sure that it is this practice together with the cleanliness of Mel’s home which has ensured that Darragh has remained healthy and bug free for majority of his time spent with Mel.
All in all I am thoroughly happy with the level of care Darragh receives and I’m certain that being in such a positive and happy environment is helping Darragh to develop into a confident and self assured little boy.
I would absolutely recommend Mel as a great and reliable childminder.
From Paula & James
James started with Mel in September 2013 aged 11 months. As a first time Mum, Mel put me at ease and reassured me James would be perfectly fine in her care. He's been there almost 2 years and has received a good foundation ready to start nursery.
James is a very confident and well mannered little boy. He listens well and knows his numbers. He plays well and is kind to other children. These skills have been installed by Mel of which I am very appreciative.
Mel keeps me up to date with any new skills James has developed as well as keeping a record of his progression. Mel has been very supportive with any concerns I have had and has provided me with sound advice.
Mel provides variety throughout the day, taking the children to playgroup, the library or the park and providing indoor and outdoor play within the home setting. James has lunch at Mel's being offered a variation of healthy home cooked meals.
James has never been upset to go to Mel's, in fact he runs in never looking back and has to be coasted out as he's too busy enjoying himself.
Mel has a caring and fun personality, giving James loves if he's out of sorts and always making him laugh.
When James starts school, I may need assistance with the school run and I wouldn't ask anyone else but Mel because I trust her to care for my child and keep him safe.
My daughter has been with Mel since she was 4 months old, and she is now 5. My daughter has always received 1 to 1 time with mel as well as group play with the other children, allowing her to develop a range of social skills. mel attends sessions at different play groups throughout Bedworth and also takes the children to the local library and for play in the parks as well. Mel follows the early years National Curricumum framework, concentrating on education skills, social skills and welfare. My daughter has moved to school and is way ahead of other students there down to the work that Mel had done with her. Whilst in th ehome setting Mel provides them with activites, they do drawing painting, nature projects in the garden, and Mel only allows the TV on first thing in the morning and when the children come in from school to relax and chill, or if they need some quiet time. Mel also caters for all religiousa and no religios events thorughout the year, so the children lean. mel offeres the children in her care a full and varied diet, and also gives parents a menu so you know what your child has eaten, if you want them to have a specific diet Mel will cater for this with prior notice. Mel relaises that all children are individual and alters her care style to suit, this means that everyone in her are is well looked after, feels safe and secure and flourishs. My daughter feels partof the family there and this is what a parent want when out at work to not have to worry if their child is being well looked after - one look at my daughter and you can see she is well looked after whilst with Melm sometimes so well she wants to stay there longer! Mel goes above the duties of being a childcare provider, she cares about the children in her care and wnats them to be happy, its not just a job to hwer its a vocation.
I would urge any parent looking for a reliable, friendly childminder to approach Mel. My son has been with Mel since he was 9 months old he is now 4. Mel gives my son a full and varied day with varied activities (play groups, library and parks just to name a few) and my son loves it, he has a very close relationship with Mel and that is comforting as a parent when working knowing that your child is happy and is in very safe hands.
Mel goes above and beyond child minder duties not only in my experience but i have seen for other parents and children as well.
