About Us

As an organisation we are forward facing and never rest on our laurels. Keen to ensure that we offer our students the very best that education can bring, we utilise our national connections to ensure we stay abreast of educational policy and are well placed to ensure our learners thrive within the ever changing educational landscape. We are committed to working in partnership with our students and their parents and carers and the launch of our new Virtual Learning Environment, eSchools has further supported our desire to do this.

The Morley Academy has National Teaching School status and in September 2015 we opened our School Centred Initial Teacher Training provision; we are now able to award Qualified Teacher Status in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. This is an incredibly important development as it allows us to be certain of the quality of the training that student teachers have and therefore allows us to ensure that amazing new teachers are, where appropriate, brought into the academy when posts arise. We also seek, when appropriate, to attract outstanding colleagues from outside of the Trust and The GORSE Academies’ outstanding reputation helps us to do this.

Experts in assessment rubric we feel well placed to support students in realising grades which will facilitate their desired next steps and, of course, we have a rich and diverse programme of enrichment to complement our academic provision. I have conveyed to our students on many occasions that I firmly believe the greatest gift we can give them is the gift of choice. In other words, it is our job to support them in the learning process so that they can acquire the skills they need to be able to learn anything they wish and ultimately go on to acquire qualifications that allow them to choose their next steps rather than having avenues closed off to them due to a poor skills set or a lack of qualifications.

I am proud of our comprehensive intake and the inclusive nature of our institution. The Morley Academy is a wonderful place in which to learn and work. We strive to ensure our students are leaders of their own learning and that they master the key skills which are needed in preparation for adult life. The staff body is a dedicated team, all of whom play their part to ensure students are safe, happy, challenged and who achieve success.

In March 2009 we were judged to be ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED in all aspects of our work – student care, teaching and learning, curriculum and students’ achievement. Following our May 2013 Inspection we were re-designated as Outstanding, again in all aspects of our provision. I would encourage you to read a copy of the Inspection report, which is on our website, to give you a sense of the remarkable things that take place in our school on a daily basis. All of our work is about providing an outstanding experience for all of our students; the results from the summer examination series 2015 place us amongst the top performing schools nationally.

We want our students to be independent thinkers who are able to lead themselves and others in the learning process; we want them to see that it is the value of effort that reaps rewards. We provide our young people with the highest possible standards in teaching and learning so that they are all fully able to engage with adult life after school. To do this we ensure there are no barriers or limitations to our students achieving their potential so they are able to reach the highest possible standards of academic, social and personal development.

Our curriculum continues to provide our students with the personalised learning experience that will suit them best, at both Key Stages 4 and 5. Our Key Stage 4 programme of study commences in Year 9 and whilst the English Baccalaureate (E-Bacc) will be the qualification of choice for most of our students, our curriculum is still comprehensive and inclusive. We are most certainly not driven by politics but by doing the right thing for our young people.

Our transition programme, into and through Year 7, is second to none. We continue to work tirelessly with all of our partner feeder schools to make sure our youngest students are ready for the challenges of life in the academy and are happy and supported throughout their time with us. Furthermore our students are closely supported by a team of careers specialists who help them to consider their aspirations and desired next steps and support them with applications to Post-16 providers, employers or training programmes including higher level apprenticeships.

In September 2015 The GORSE Academies Trust opened Elliott Hudson College, a 1000 place state-of-the-art academic Post-16 college (www.elliotthudsoncollege.ac.uk). Students at The Morley Academy are prioritised within Elliott Hudson College’s admission process. The college, despite only being open for a short time, has attracted national attention and is the preferred Post-16 provider for students across Leeds and the surrounding areas. Students at Elliott Hudson College also work with students at The Morley Academy in a variety of enrichment activities including the academy’s drama production and the choir.
