Woodthorpe Junior and Infant School is a community school school in Birmingham. According to the latest government data, it has approximately 211 pupils and allows entry for children aged 4-11.
About Us
The school provides a warm, welcoming and emotionally secure environment for all pupils and high priority is given to ensuring that the transition from home to school is pleasurable and well ordered.
We regard parents as partners in the continuing education of their children and good communication between parents and teachers is encouraged, endeavouring at all times to keep parents fully informed about their children’s learning and how they can effectively support that learning.
An OFSTED inspection was carried out in the school in February 2012. We were judged to be ‘Outstanding’.
The school is committed to inclusion and equal opportunities as regards access to the buildings for pupils, staff, parents and visitors.
Woodthorpe J.I. School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to be active in sharing this commitment.
The Governing Body has an active involvement within the school, providing valuable support to the Head Teacher and staff.
The governors take an active interest in the life of the school and where ever possible support school functions.
The school is one form entry so it has 7 classes. We currently have 11 teachers, currently 8 full time and 4 part time.
The school also has three full and two part time teaching assistants who support Reception, Year 1, Year 2, SEN and target groups of children. We also have a part time teaching assistant to support individual children with Educational Health care plans as well as other pupils.
The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum throughout. The Reception class study the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. We have implemented new curriculum and assessment without levels for Years 1, 3, 4 and 5. Years 2 and 6 move onto this next year.
Staff expertise has been utilised to good effect. French is taught from Year 3 onward. Our Science specialist teaches a range of classes across the school.
There is a full range of music throughout the school during normal curriculum times. In addition the school choir is very active and 20 children receive brass tuition from Birmingham Music Service.
There is a strong sporting ethos in the school with our football, netball and cricket teams competing successfully against much larger schools. This is enhanced by our sporting partnerships with Bishop Challoner Secondary School.
We are part of the Colmore Teaching School Alliance.
There is a strong partnership link with the King Edward VI Schools who support the curriculum in a variety of ways.
We also have links with Wheelers Lane, Swanshurst Secondary Schools .
Religious education is provided in accordance with the Authority's "Agreed Syllabus". The religious beliefs of all pupils and their parents are respected. Appropriate arrangements are made for the withdrawal of pupils from RE lessons and acts of worship when parents request this.
We all believe and are proactive in promoting that it is alright to be different in our school.
Our Childcare Provision
Woodies After School Care is a privately run breakfast club and after school club in Woodthorpe J.I. School. The hours are 7.30-8.55am and 3.15-5.45pm (5.30pm on a Friday). Please contact the school for further information 0121 464 5203.
