My Experience

I moved from Ireland to the UK in 1987 and my first role was an au-pair for a family based in Richmond. I remained working as a Nanny full time up until 2005 when I decided to work for Children's Services as a Family Support Worker.

I was fortunate to remain with each of my families for 4-5 years throughout my Nanny career before starting with Children's Services. When I previously worked as a Nanny, I worked with children who had disabilities such as Autism, ADHD, Downs Syndrome and many more.

I have worked with children from birth to adulthood throughout my career as a nanny and a Family Support Worker. As a Nanny I was employed as a sole charge Nanny and I have cared for children while their parents worked away overnight. I have also worked alongside parents and parents that work from home.

During my time in Children's Services I was privileged to work in the Children with Disabilities Team. My main role was to assess children's needs and ensure they received a package of care to meet their needs.

I was also privileged to work in the Fostering Team for many years and my role was to support foster families with caring for children who were placed in their care. I facilitated training for foster carers, organised fun days for foster carers own children, supported carers with challenging behaviour and organised contact with birth families.

I moved to Adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities Team in 2020 as a Senior Social Care Assistant. I worked with young adults who found it challenging to access services and helped them to become more independent and advocating for them.

During the pandemic I decided I wanted to work directly with children and made the decision to return to being a nanny. I started working with my new family in April 2022 and I absolutely love my job. This change has made me realise that I am at my happiest working with children and their parents.
