My Summary
About Me
Since completing and obtaining my NNEB in 1990, I have been working in childcare for just over 20 years. I have had a wide range of experience, though mainly based as a Nanny; I have temped in a Nursery and have also been registered as a childminder governed by Ofsted.
My Experience
Within my work experience I have been in charge and set up and organised large events, Christmas, Easter parties, treasure hunts and Sports days or just general activity sessions e.g. craft and cooking mornings. Other people have come along and joined in and helped out by doing jobs I’ve designated to them. I am very creative and like to teach and encourage children to learn by making learning fun, planning activities attached to a theme encouraging their early year’s development, inclusive of colour, number and letter recognition. This will give them adequate preparation for the transition to school.
Another achievement I am proud of is setting up and running a music group for all the children within the Nanny group and anyone else who wanted to join in. It is fantastic for language and communication skills, bringing the shyest of children out of their shell when they hear their favourite song. It is also of course a great social experience too. The songs we sing cover numbers, counting, colours, opposites, shapes and sizes, so without even realising it they are picking up early maths and literacy skills. Its helps them understand about sharing and co operation with others. We also use hand puppets and musical instruments which encourage their co ordination.
I have formed firm long lasting relationships with all the families I have worked for. I am still in contact with many of them now. It is important to have trust between you, ensuring you liaise and discuss the children’s progress and developmental milestones, thus enabling you to flag up any possible issues and resolve them promptly with the best interests of the child. An aid in this procedure is to keep a daily diary for various children I have cared for, noting their routine, achievements and sharing this information with the parents using it as a reference.
I am very interested in furthering my training and gaining further qualifications. Before I decided to relocate to Dorset I had been accepted to do The Early Years Foundation Degree and I am still keen to achieve this in the future.
