My Summary
About Me
I have a level 5 qualification in child care and have over 10 years experience of working within nurseries with children up to the age of 5. I am paediatric first aid qualified and have a full UK driving license and my own car. I am interesting in a change from working in a nursery and being able to create a variety of new experiences and activities for myself and the children in my care.
My Experience
Busy Bees at the QE - June 2014 - July 2021
I worked at busy bees nursery for 7 years with all ages through the nursery, spending most of my time working with children between 1 and 3 years old. During my time at Busy Bees I had to plan and carry out weekly activities and observations on my key children within the curriculum and carry. out assessments on the children to ensure they were reaching their full potential. Whilst at Busy Bees I had the opportunity to carry out my paediatric first aid qualification, which has been kept up to date.
Monarch Agency October 2013- June 2014
I worked for monarch agency for about 12 months which has given me experience within the same day nursery for a while working mostly with children 18 months – 2 years old children. I also spent some time working as a key stage two teaching assistant where I would have small groups of children to help do their work or I would be providing curriculum release for the teachers, where I would cover their classes.
Reynalds Cross School | January 2008 – July 2009
I volunteered at Reynalds Cross School for 2 days a week whist studying at South Birmingham College. Whilst there I was based in one classroom with children aged between 8-12 years with varying special educational needs requirements, where I joined a team within the classroom of the teacher and 4 teaching assistants. My role was to help keep the children engaged and focused on their tasks. I would also report back to the teacher any information that I believed would be helpful for them in supporting an individual child.
Sunny Bunnies Nursery | October 2007 – December 2008
Before volunteering at Reynalds Cross School I also volunteered at Sunny Bunnies Nursery for 2 days a week. During the time I volunteered here I was based firstly in the pre-school room with children aged between 3-5 years. My daily responsibilities here were to support the staff in the daily routine by carrying out different tasks. One of my responsibilities was to plan and carry out my own activity with the children, ensuring that the activity met all the requirements of the EYFS, which I would do once a week. I would also carry out regular safety checks on the outdoor play are where I recorded information to ensure the safety and well-being of the children whilst in the outdoor are. After several months in the pre-school room I then moved into the baby room with children aged 4 months- 2 years where I would also plan and carry out my own activity with the children. I would also take on the daily task such as nappy changes, sleep monitoring and feeding, where I would record the information for the staff to be able to provide the parents/guardians.
Kinderland Day Nursery | October 2005 – May 2006
Kinderland Day Nursery was my first experience of volunteering at a nursery, I volunteered there for 1 day a week as a placement from my BTEC course at Solihull College. The main skills I developed whilst there was an understanding of how a day nursery ran as this was my first experience being a team member within a nursery. At this placement I gained experience firstly in the baby room and then moved to the toddler room. This provided me with a thorough knowledge of the different routines these rooms have and what to expect.
My Qualifications
Wolverhampton University |2009-2013
CertofHE (Level 5) Pass
Whilst studying for this I learnt in depth theoretical approaches to children’s learning and pedagogy and how to put them into daily practice to ensure the best outcomes are reached for individual children and their families. This entailed a variety of modules focused on many different areas. An example of a module we covered is communication, language and literacy which gave me great knowledge of how children learn to read and how they learn how to communicate effectively. This module also provided me with the knowledge of when a child is struggling and may need extra support in this area and how the tools to provide that support. One of my favourite modules that this course entailed was childhood and the changing family, this module involved learning how childhood had changed throughout the history of childhood and how it is prone to change in the future due to a range of environmental factors. During this course I also learnt the importance of communication between practitioners to ensure the safety and well-being of the children within the setting and in doing that may also require the ability to communicate with multiple agencies.
South Birmingham College | 2007-2009
Diploma in Childcare and Education (level 3) – CCD
This course provided me with an in depth understanding of the curriculum and the theoretical perspectives that have influenced the curriculums and can be seen in practice supporting and providing the best possible care for children and their families. This course also provided me with a sound knowledge of the importance of equal opportunities for children and the importance in recognising that all children are individuals and have their own individual needs that need to be met to support them in reaching their full potential. We also covered the importance of reflective practice and the skills and tools to be able to reflect on your personal performance to continue improving your professional standards.
Solihull College | 2005-2006

This course was a great introduction to understanding child development and improving my knowledge of the curriculums.
