My Summary
About Me
I started working as an Ofsted Registered Childminder in January 2003 until I moved from Surrey to East Anglia in 2013. I was registered with Ofsted until 2017 when I started a B&B. Then I moved to Durrington in July 2021 to be closer to family and friends whilst finding somewhere for my retirement. I have a wealth of experience with children from 5 months to 11 years as well as having 3 grown-up children of my own, all married, and 7 grandchildren.
I had a private education (my late father was a dentist) and I have recently finished studying for a degree with the Open University but I would like to use my childcare experience to work as a part-time nanny and baby sitter. If required, I can re-register with Ofsted.
I am a good cook and would be able to make nutritious and, where appropriate, vegetarian meals, if required, and perhaps with a little help from the child/children.
Although I am not artistic myself, I find the internet very useful for ideas to help with craft activities. I also believe children should be encouraged to take part in regular outdoor activities.
I am still in touch with families from the past and have a very special relationship with two families in particular. I have watched two of their children grow from babies to wonderful, caring, teenagers.
I swim, cycle and I used to ride horses regularly but no longer have access to a horse. I watch a little TV, preferring to listen to music. I enjoy gardening because I find it therapeutic and, I am computer literate, having previously been a computer trainer and consultant, and also a personal assistant.
As far as I am aware, I have never been in contact with anyone with Coronavirus and I take appropriate precautions when out and about.
My Experience
I was graded outstanding by Ofsted in 2009 by which time I had two assistants working with me. I have experience of working with children with special educational needs and I have some lovely letters from some of the parents which I can show you.
I undertook a level 4 quality assurance scheme in 2009 in order to be eligible to draw down the grant for early years funding for 2, 3, and 4-year-olds thus providing a nursery/pre-school environment for children approaching school age.
I helped children with their homework, which was particularly important for some of the children who found homework challenging. I helped my the 9/10-year-old grandson with remote homeschooling during lockdown to take the strain off my son who was working from home and daughter-in-law working in the NHS.
As I haven't worked since 2016 I am no longer registered with Ofsted but I do renew my DBS every year. Please note, at the moment I drive a sports car which would not be suitable for transporting children but this is something we could discuss.
