My Summary
About Me
Hello,
I am available from July for any temporary/ad hoc roles, or something more long term.
My name is Kelly, I am British, and I am 39, I am based in North Yorkshire in the Saltburn area. I have been working with Children in different settings for a number of years from ages 0-16. I have an artistic background and love getting involved with creating things with the children, helping them to explore their own questions.
I have been described by one of my referees as follows. “ Kelly is a kind and wonderful person. She is always ready to go the extra mile and put other people's needs above her own. I would trust her completely and recommend her highly".
I am warm and friendly with a good sense of humor. I am organised and will always try to bring things along with me that suit the child and their needs.
My Experience
Most recently I worked with a baby from two months to two years, as well as a little girl, from one year to three years. I helped to take care alongside another nanny. We spent most of our time in Cyprus, but we travelled a lot also.
Previously I was a nanny/housekeeper looking after four children; when I started this role the twin boys were age 5 and the girls ages 7 and 9. I was in this position since January 2013 and recently left in November 2014, because I wish to pursue more temporary roles, to enable me to concentrate on developing courses for children as well as websites an my own work.
During this role, I worked Monday – Friday helping out with as aspects of their care such as school pick ups, homework, preparing meals, organising after school activities, parties, swimming, reading, spelling, bath time, hair washing, hair plating, bedtime, babysitting and interacting with the children in creative ways, with role play and teaching them to sew, draw and create collage, keeping them engaged and stimulated. I am very accustom to sibling rivalry and use tactful conversational, non blaming ways to deal with the situation. I have been on a working holiday with this family and I am very adaptable to new situations. I care about my work and I am very flexible, not minding to get stuck in if needs be.
In addition to helping with the children I was also very hands on with the house and helped with organising it, tidying it, cleaning it and preparing the house to be on the market, as well as helping out with the families house move to Brighton from London. I felt strongly that I wanted to help the children settle into their new life, and having me there as a constant would help not make the whole event so daunting. I miss them, but know that I needed to move on in order to give more to society as a whole. Another thing that I would like to pursue is becoming a professional clutter clearer and organiser, which I discovered whilst working with this family, helping the mother organise the children's keep sakes, clothes, uniform, wardrobes and bedrooms. I have great initiative and am happy to get stuck into whatever the task may be.
Prior to this role, and in conjunction with other part time roles I have helped a family of three girls, ages 1, 2, and 4 initially simultaneously working as a housekeeper and being a listening ear whilst the children were sleeping, but then went on to helping out with the children more, taking them to and from school, swimming and to the park as well as being creative with them and helping with babysitting. I also went away with the family to Scotland on one occasion for two weeks and still keep in contact with them.
In 2010 I did a temporary fill in position for three months for a family with two children aged 7 and 8 years old. I collected the children from school, prepared meals and assisted the children with their homework. I have also spent a lot of time looking after my own nieces and nephews, four in total, current ages nearly 4, 2 and just turned 7, being involved with their care since they were babies.
I have taken care of an 1 year old and 4 year old sole charge for two weeks. During this role I undertook all aspects of their care, and really got a taste of full time mother hood.
I have also looked after friends children on many different occasions.
For the past six years I have also worked for a private art studio in Shepherds Bush, called Kite Studios, where I work as a creative assistant, assisting in holiday workshops, after school workshops, and workshops within the community, over the past year I have also been delivering various themed birthday parties to children aged 3-12 in groups of 6-20, as well as teaching holiday workshops and 1 on1 sessions, using mixed media, clay, drawing, painting and model making. Over the duration of working with Kite, I have worked with children with special needs, such as autism, and downs
I hope to stay with Kite and am planning on preparing and delivering my own workshops, and 1 on 1 sessions as well as continuing with birthday parties and holiday workshops. As creative assistant/ teacher I encourage the children to use their imagination, be creative and use their artistic flair in the tasks set out for them. I also play a role in organising the studio and putting my ideas across. Being very artistic I have gained a huge amount of personal satisfaction helping children in this way. I have also undertook a similar role for a few weeks in May 2009 at a holiday camp, and January 2008 at a language camp in Russia teaching children creative skills using arts and crafts, storytelling and dance and have also worked with children in Trinidad in a similar way.
I am a competent cook and has an interest in nutrition, having studied a diploma in nutritional healing and worked in the chiropractic and health food shop fields, I am able to prepare healthy, nutritional meals for children, and understands the importance of a healthy diet, and communicate this is polite productive manner. I am keen to encourage teeth brushing and manners.
I am a strong and confident swimmer and also enjoy being outdoors. I am happy to have a go at most sports.
