My Summary
About Me
Hello I'm Mandy and I am an Ofsted registered childminder, rated good in February 2023. I am also a mother of two children, and our family dog Ziggy, my daughter is 21, my son is 10 and Ziggy is 6 and loves the attention of the children. She is a little dog with a good nature, yappy at the door bell but when everyone is in and settled she is calm and friendly, and the children adore her. I am family orientated, however I love my job and try my best to help with all situations thrown at me.
My setting is an end of terrace house, in the heart of Stratford (the old side!), and I’m registered to care for children aged 0 to 8 years.
I use the whole of the downstairs area for my setting, this comprises of kitchen, lounge and hall and downstairs toilet. The lounge is a large room with easy clean flooring where all of the activities are based; the toys are kept in here too within easy reach for the children. The hall is used for displaying the children’s topic work; and where parents have access to weekly planning, policies, and procedure documents.
As I have a toilet downstairs there is no need to use the upstairs area, and Ofsted have me registered for downstairs use only.
I have a large garden, which has a grassed and paved area that the children use for the bikes, climbing frame, ball games, sand and water play, there are 2 sheds out the garden all which lock, one used for gardening equipment, one for outdoor toy storage. Ziggy has her own patch of garden at the side of the house for her to use, the children do not have access to this part of the garden.
I have an open door policy and you are free to collect your child early if you wish but please let me know as I take the children out regularly, I would however advise that you don’t pop in and then go again as this unsettles your child as they become confused - children thrive on routine. I actively encourage parental participation, involvement and communication. This way it helps your child to settle easier if we have good communication. You are always welcome to drop in on an ad hoc basis at the beginning or the end of the day, or come and enjoy a ‘stay and play’ session.
Nevertheless I am aware that as parents with young children life is pretty full on.
My philosophy to child care is to give your children the ability to play, by teaching them to play learning follows. I aim to be warm, approachable and most of all caring, children learn more when they are comfortable in their surroundings and with people they know they can trust. I ensure every child feels loved by building a bond between your child and myself, as well as you - the parents – Children feed off of your positivity so having a good relationship with you is paramount. Professional love is something I have always found to work so if your child wants a hug or kiss they get one, if they tell me that they love me I tell them I love them too.
I make all activities appropriate for the age and stage of the individual child.
I ensure that all children are able to participate fully.
Giving children opportunities for language development.
Listen actively to children as they speak to me.
Allow children to take ownership of play or activity.
I am a warm, calm person and the children find this reassuring.
I encourage children who are losing concentration.
Adapt the activity to suit the knowledge and needs of the individual child.
Praise children for their efforts as well as their achievements.
Create a harmonious and pleasant atmosphere.
Handle unwanted behaviour effectively, but not aggressively.
Encourage children to respect each other, the equipment used and the environment around them.
Make sure children are safe and feel safe, and most of all have fun - this will be your child's first introduction to learning, so by making learning fun, my hope is that this will encourage years of happy learning for all the children.
My Experience

I am also the recipient of the nursery world awards 2021 covid - 19 hero highly commended. Two of my former parents nominated me for the award and out of hundreds of nominees this was my results, I'm very proud to receive this award as it is entered by all areas of my profession. We have had the most amazing experience with Mandy. Our little boy was 22 months when he started with her and it was the first time he had been to anyone except us. She was super relaxed about the settling process and he settled really quickly and loved the environment, and her and all the other children.
When he came to Mandy we were a bit worried about his speech as it had been very slow to develop but within a couple of months he was just completely flying. He’s now very chatty, is constantly curious and is amazing at imaginative play. I think so much of this has come from Mandy.
Mandy is so kind and loving towards the children but she is also really fun and cares about their development and keeps us up to date so we can work together to help him. She made such an effort over Christmas with them all which was so lovely during lockdown and he is always excited to go there and chats about it when he is at home. The food is amazing too, so healthy and delicious. It has really helped him stay adventurous with food and very polite with his please and thank yous!
We are moving out of London and are so sad to leave Mandy’s. He will miss her so much and so will we. We can not recommend her highly enough. Any child (and parents!) would be very lucky to have Mandy in their lives.

We have always felt happy and secure leaving our 1 year old son in Mandy's care this year. Her wealth of experience and sense of humour and fun have really allowed him to thrive. He has always been cheerful, well-fed and well-rested after a day will Mandy and has really developed in confidence as a result of his time with her. We have been so impressed by the different experiences Mandy has been able to offer - trips to the park and zoo, art and cooking activities to name a few. Thank you Mandy for looking after our son with so much love and kindness, he will really miss you!

Response by Mandy on 25/07/2019:
Ahhh Rowan what a lovely thing to say, your son was a pleasure to have in my care, I loved every minute of him being here, he really is a hoot, and I'm sure he will continue to thrive just as he started to here.
I'm going to miss you all too.
I can not recommend Mandy highly enough. She has been looking after my daughter since she was 6 months old and 8 months down the line I don’t know what we would do without her. She’s part of the family. Our daughter loves her so much and is so happy there. Mandy is so warm and her home is a relaxed, loving family environment. It’s a proper home, and a million miles from the impersonal experience many friends have had with nurseries. We celebrate milestones together, and I know she’s as happy as we are to hear a new word or see her learning.
But the really great thing about Mandy is that while she does all of that, she’s also an absolute pro. She really helps me understand my daughter’s development and does loads of different activities with her. She teaches her something new every day and always has ideas when we are struggling with something.
Being apart from your child is hard, but if you have to, Mandy is the best alternative to being there yourself. I’m so glad she is on this journey with us.

Thank you Amy for such kind words, I'm sitting typing this with tears (WATER) rolling down my face, You've made me out to be something amazing when I'm just me doing a job that I love to do. Thank you again
Mandy started looking after our little girl when she was 5 months old. We finished our time with her when Ella was 3.5 years as we moved from the area. Ella loved Mandy and we felt that Mandy loved Ella! We decided on a childminder after a miserable nursery experience and finding Mandy was a life saver. Ella spent 5 days a week with Mandy from 7am - 6pm and was absolutely happy and content. Mandy went above and beyond for us, collecting Ella when we were sick, being flexible with our working hours and being a mum to Ella throughout the week. Mandy was great with feedback, tracking Ellas progress and letting us know what to work on next to move her forward. We honestly wouldn’t have managed without her and only wish we could have moved her out of London with us!!

Response by Mandy on 29/12/2018:
Wow Rhian thank you for your kind words. I loved every second with her, she never failed to make me laugh, and nor did either of you when telling about of her antics at home. I don't think anywhere outside East London would cope with me! but such a lovely thing to say. xx
I'm not sure where to start but I feel like I should begin by saying Mandy has made life a breeze since she has been looking after my son. He was there for over a year and he loved it. He is no longer with Mandy but still asks for her now! She always made him feel welcome and I always felt at ease leaving him with her while I was at work.
She is very warm hearted, kind and loving in nature and always goes that extra mile to ensure your needs are catered for. I couldn't have asked for a better minder for my son. Mandy is always upbeat and positive which was amazing for my son to be around, he always left there happy, with a big smile on his face. I really couldn't have asked for a better minder for my son.
Thank you Mandy!
