My Summary

My Experience

I have thirty years' teaching experience and have held a number of teaching positions. I have effectively established and taught in a new Nursery Unit in my village in North Yorkshire. I have enjoyed the roles of Reading and Art co-ordinator and have also been involved in musical productions as well as effectively undertaking day to day classroom duties.
I have successfully taught children with a number of difficulties, providing an individual programme of learning to suit their needs both in the classroom and out. I have worked with children who have struggled to learn to read (dyslexia), children with Down's syndrome, ADHD and autism, often supporting parents who need to seek help for their children in the classroom. I have attended numerous training courses, ranging from dyslexia and autism to Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing approach. I am very familiar with Ruth Miskin’s ‘Read Write Inc’ approach to teaching phonics and reading.
I now offer one-to-one tuition. I have had much success in inspiring children in this role by teaching English and Maths using a range of visual, audio and kinaesthetic approaches alongside more traditional teaching methods. My strengths as a teacher lie in good relationships with staff, children and parents alike. I am approachable, reliable and committed to my job. My goal is to help each child reach their own potential while remaining firm, fair flexible and fun! I’m very proud to have helped two of my recent tutees gain a place at Greshams public school in Holt despite their learning difficulties. We had worked together throughout their primary school years, including helping their parents during that home schooling period.
I also offer help with SATS tuition as year 6 children work towards their tests in May.

Leeds Metropolitan University, W. Yorkshire.
1980 - 1983 BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design and History of Art (2:1).
1978 -1980 Diploma in Applied Design (Pass with merit). New College, Durham.
1971 - 1978
2 A Levels; English Literature and Art.
9 O Levels including English and Mathematics.

My Availability

I presently have availability on a Monday and Tuesday evening, tutoring in my own home in Holt.
More recently, some children are needing help with the Read, Write Inc approach which I am very up to date with and also I’ve done a lot of Maths work.
Additionaly, I offer help to prepare Year 6 children for their SATS tests.

My Fees

• Tutoring from £45.00 per hour
