My Summary
About Me
I have several professional qualifications in childcare and education including a first class honours degree in Early Childhood Studies and Early Years Professional status (level 6).
As a mother of two, now grown-up, daughters and a one-year-old granddaughter, I have plenty of experience in the trials and tribulations of parenting.
I work in close partnership with parents in order to provide the best possible experiences for each individual child, through consistency of care. By acknowledging the parent to be the expert in their child, I find that working with parents gives me great insight into how to meet each child's needs.
Although I am a great believer in play-based learning, I also enjoy offering "real life" activities such as planting herbs and vegetables and caring for them - and also digging them up and cooking them. I also enjoy baking, and love to go on outings to local playparks, the library, the shops, the bank or post-office and lots of nature walks.
My Experience
I moved into the childcare and education sector over 16 years ago, beginning in a pre-school and gaining my level 3 qualification. Since then I have worked in several pre-schools and Nurseries at different levels including Nursery nurse, Special educational needs officer, and Nursery Manager. Once I gained my level 3 I wanted to know more and so applied to do a degree at Oxford Brooks, which I achieved while working in a pre-school. During my work in preschools and Nurseries, I have worked with a lot of children with Special Educational needs and disability such as children on the autistic spectrum, Children with Downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, Global developmental delay, hearing impairments, and behavioral difficulties. I went into childminding in September 2014 as working as a Nursery Manager had taken me away from working with children into an office which didn't suit me at all.
In January 2016 an after school club opened in my local village and I applied to manage the club. I thoroughly enjoyed working with older children and stayed until my circumstances took me to Newcastle. While there I fostered two small boys and provided a stepping stone for them to their new life with their adopted family.
Now back in Oxfordshire, I have worked in another private day nursery for a year but prefer the freedom that Nannying brings. I already look after 2 children on a part time basis and one of these children is term time only. I am hoping to find a family that would like some childcare during the school holidays. I am hoping to find a family that is looking for a child-focused nanny who loves to have a run around in the park, build dens, bake cookies, and read stories.
