My Summary
About Me
Hello, I'm Tim, I'm a graduate of Psychology and Neuroscience offering private tutoring in GCSE Maths in Cambridge.
My Experience
My academic training has involved a great deal of advanced Maths - a subject I thought I had left behind after GCSE. I found that what I learnt from Psychology helped me learn Maths much faster and more deeply. My students now benefit from this understanding of the Psychological processes of learning and I use techniques including the method of loci and spaced repetition to aid their learning. I also support students with exam anxiety using visualisation of the exam and rehearsal of techniques to use if stumped in the exam hall.
A pass in GCSE Maths is a requirement for most education beyond GCSE, so achieving at least a grade 4 is a priority even for students for whom Maths poses a significant challenge. By working one to one with these students I am able to identify areas for improvement whilst keeping motivation high. I believe that much of the GCSE Maths Foundation course can come in very helpful in life and I find that students often find it motivating when I relate the Maths to real-world problems they might face. I am an encouraging and patient teacher and always individualise my lessons to the student.
Some students are more confident in Maths but find that school lessons do not allow them to reach their full potential. These students often benefit from the more focused one to one environment where I canto identify any problematic areas as well as areas of interest where they may want to learn more, even beyond the scope of the GCSE syllabus. I find that going beyond the syllabus often significantly helps cement student's understanding of the syllabus so is rarely a waste of time.
I look forward to hearing from you, please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or wish to book your first tutoring session with me.

My Availability
As I have just completed my Masters course I am currently available most of the time so for now I can be quite flexible. In future I am likely to take on a part-time or full-time job and I am hoping to begin a PhD in September, so after school weekdays is likely to be the best time long-term.

We employed Tim to pick up our 5 year old son from school. He would bring him back to our place, feed him his tea and look after him till we got home from work. He was great with our son, who really enjoyed their afternoons together. I'd happily recommend him.
