My Summary
About Me
My name is Sonia Quinn. I was born in 1969 and have lived and worked for the most part in SE London. I attended St Mary's College, Strawberry Hill, where I studied English, Classics and a foundation year in Music.
Having had an interest in education, but not wanting to follow the more traditional route, I enrolled at the London Montessori Centre (now Montessori Centre International) and becam a qualified Montessori practitioner.
In 1996 I founded Stepping Stones Montessori Nursery Ltd in partnership with another Montessori teacher and worked there for thirteen years. Since becoming a home based Montessori practitioner I joined the committee of the Lewisham Childminders Association and was elected chair. I am a member of the Montessori Schools Association and media officer for the Montessori Childminding Network. I also meet with local childminders to offer support and a friendly ear. I am in touch with the Liverpool Early Years to keep up to date with local issues and use social media to keep myself informed and supported on national matters. I attend many seminars and lectures throughout the year as part of my Continuous Professional Development to make sure my training is up to date. In the last few years I graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs from Montessori Education for Autism (MEfA) and I recently enrolled in a Montessori Primary course to become qualified to teach/homeschool 6-12 year olds. My most recent Ofsted inspection grade was Outstanding (Jan 2016)
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and baking, music (listening and performing), reading, cinema, theatre, photography, walking and yoga.
I was married in 1995 and have an adult son of my own. Both my husband and son work as my assistants.
My Experience
I have been working as a Montessori teacher for over 25 years, 13 of which was running my own nursery. I became a childminder in 2010 and sometimes work with assistants (my husband or son).

General Information
Hours of Business
I work between 8am and 6pm all year round. I am able to offer both full and part time places and I can be reasonably flexible about changes in days or hours for part time children at short notice as long as there is a place available.
School Drop off and Collection
At the moment I pick up from Pavilion Preschool. Sudley Primary is my nearest school.
Late Collection of Children
I expect all children to have been collected and to have left the setting by 6pm at the latest. Failure to collect your child will result in a late fee of £10 for every five minutes late. If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact me so that I may reassure your child that you are on your way and explain the reason for your delay. If a child has not been collected by 6.30pm and I have not been contacted, or if a child is persistently collected late, then I will have no option but to contact the Duty Social Worker
Meals and Special Diets
I offer a wide range of freshly prepared, nutritious food. I use organic fruit and vegetable and organic or free range meat where possible. I am also able to accommodate children with special dietary needs such as vegetarian, allergies, gluten free, etc. Please feel free to discuss your child's needs with me.
Activities
I offer a wide range of activities for the children:
Imaginative play: dressing up, role play, small world, etc.
Art and Craft: this will often be linked to topics and themes and will encompass a wide range of styles and materials.
Music: the children will be encouraged to listen to music and participate in musical activities. I have instruments from different parts of the world which the children can explore. I also play the guitar.
Books: these are an important tool for anyone working with children. I have a large collection which covers many topics and which promotes positive images of children. They are also simply to be enjoyed. The children all have their own book bags and take a book home every week to share with their family.
Montessori Activities: I am able to provide Montessori materials that will enable the children to explore Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Maths, Science, History and Geography. Please ask for further details of these activities and a demonstration.
