My Requirements

I am looking for someone to sit with my daughter on a Tuesday and Thursday during the day for five to six hours and can be totally flexible around times - possibly between 9 AM or 3 PM or early or later times or happy to work something else out. My daughter is 20 and has autism and learning difficulties so on these days I need someone to be at home with her while I go out or I may be working from home in another room. My daughter does not speak and mainly uses single words, phrases and gestures to communicate but understands quite a lot so can mostly follow what she is being asked to do provided that instructions are kept to a few words.

I know that sitting with a young person with autism may seem daunting or you may feel you would need experience of supporting a person with additional needs but my daughter is quite easy going and I would work with you to help you get to know her until you are happy to be left with her. At home she likes to wander around the house with her iPad watching Thomas the Tank Engine, Teletubbies or music videos (Ed Sheeran is her favourite) or she hangs out in her room sitting on her bed or on the sofa so doesn't need close supervision and anyone who sits with her can just watch TV while she comes and goes. She can use the toilet but would need help to get toilet paper and adjust clothing. Other help may include getting a drink or food and maybe changing clothes as she sometimes gets fed up if clothing is tight or she is too hot. Anyone who sits with her would not need to follow her about or entertain her as she is usually content doing her own thing at home and just needs to know someone is about if she needs them and she usually just ends up sitting with the person while they watch TV and she is on her iPad. Occasionally my son who is 19 may be in the house but he is tucked away in his room usually on his PS4 or computer.

The rate of pay would be £15 per hour and is run through a payroll with a contract of employment (10 to 12 hours per week or happy to be flexible and discuss what works for us both ) and employer insurance. Occasionally there may be other hours in the evenings and weekends where I might need sitting help but there would be no obligation to cover these hours unless you wished to work some extra hours. Any rota or hours if you would prefer flexible hours would be planned at least three weeks in advance together so that arrangements suit everyone.
