About Me

I'd love to share a little bit about myself and my journey, so you can get to know me better before we dive into our conversation.

My name is Carmen, and I was born and raised in Brazil, with a family rooted in Spain. Growing up, I was surrounded by a rich blend of cultures, from food and music to traditions and languages. I’ve always had a curiosity for learning new words in different languages, and I get so excited when I have the chance to use them in everyday life!
I’ve always loved travelling and exploring new places. Over the past seven years in the UK, I’ve had the chance to experience everything from the peaceful English countryside to the bustle of London, and now I’m enjoying the beauty of Scotland.
I enjoy art and aesthetic, specially interior decor, exploring antique shops and upcycling.

Whenever I get the chance, I love going for walks or even a bit of hiking! I consider myself calm, kind, and with a good sense of humour. Feel free to send me a message, and we can chat more!

My Experience

In all these roles, I have consistently demonstrated reliability, kindness, and a calm, nurturing approach. I believe in positive education and always strive to maintain the highest standards of care. My focus is on fostering an environment where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually, all while keeping communication open and transparent with parents to build strong, trusting relationships.

* EXPERIENCE AS AN AU-PAIR
I first came to the UK to begin my journey as a child carer. During my first year, I worked as a live-in Au Pair for a family with three children (aged 2, 5, and 7) in Hertfordshire. My role didn’t involve direct responsibilities related to the EYFS or development planning, but I ensured the children’s daily routines ran smoothly. My tasks included preparing a nutritious breakfast, assisting with clothing and hygiene, and taking the children to school - whether on scooters or bikes.

After school, I focused on creating engaging and enriching activities before tea time. We often visited the playground, where I encouraged social interaction with other children, helping them navigate and resolve the small conflicts that can arise, all while providing gentle guidance and adult supervision. I aimed to foster their emotional and social development in a natural, supportive way. I could spend hours telling you about specific moments the children and I shared, and I am sure they hold these memories dear to them until this day.

I also followed the parents' preferences for meal preparation and occasionally handled bedtime routines when needed.
It was a truly enjoyable experience, and leaving the family was difficult when I received an opportunity to work at a Montessori Nursery in London.

* EXPERIENCE AS NURSERY PRACTITIONER
As an Early Years Practitioner, my responsibilities shifted significantly from my previous role. I was now in charge of both individual and group planning, ensuring that each child’s needs and learning process were at the heart of everything we did. At first, I found it quite challenging, as I was still getting to grips with Maria Montessori’s concepts of independence. However, with the support of the setting, I earned my Montessori Teacher’s Assistant qualification, which gave me the confidence to work closely with my assigned key children.

After two years of working directly with children from 4 months old to preschool age, I moved to Reading, Berkshire, where I became a qualified Level 3 Senior Early Years Educator. In this role, my focus expanded to include staff management and leadership, while still ensuring that nursery policies were understood and implemented in practice.

* EXPERIENCE AS A NANNY
In 2021, I began working for a private family, caring for their baby while the older two children were at school. After three wonderful years, it’s now time to say goodbye as their little one has grown into a toddler and is starting full-time nursery.

That same year, I was also employed by another private family who valued the Montessori approach. They hired me to teach their children, who were 1 and 3 years old at the time, using Montessori principles. Although I had to leave due to scheduling conflicts, I still return regularly as their trusted babysitter.

I hold all these children close to my heart and have built strong, trusting relationships with their families. I’m confident they would be happy to provide a recommendation.
