My Summary
About Me
I am an experienced nanny confident with working with babies from birth through to primary school age, I have worked as a nanny since 2008 with further experience in other settings before this.
I am ideally seeking a 4 day a week role, which will allow me to put my heart into my work, whilst letting me continue to enjoy my own family life too.
In the past 7 years I have combined as-hoc nannying alongside antenatal / postnatal support and birth doula support, allowing me to work more flexibly around my own young family (my children are 9 and 6 years old now). Becoming a parent has given me a new perspective on my role as a nanny and supporting parents.
I have excellent references available on request.
I am a relaxed and caring person who approaches life with curiosity, always eager to continue learning and adapting my professional practice as new evidence and knowledge comes to light. I pride myself on my ability to research relevant subjects and to take constructive feedback from others.
I am nurturing and particularly enjoy caring for both babies & young children, as well parents during the journey of pregnancy and birth, a time when this nurturing may not feel as available as it once was due to our changing family set ups and loss of ‘The Village’.
I am approachable, down to earth and respectful, never insisting I know better than a parent or judging their informed choices.
I have a wide variety of skills which I have found useful throughout my career, these include:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. I particularly in educating, supporting and empowering parents in all aspects of parenting, something I have enjoyed doing throughout my Nanny career, and more recently as an Antenatal & Hypnobirthing Coach and doula.
- Connecting with children – I have always found it quite easy to build connections with the children in my care, recognising if they need to get to know me from a distance or to have me dive right in.
- I love to cook and gained a wealth of skills in the kitchen from my Grandmother who ran a thriving rural restaurant and B&B when I was growing up. I enjoy preparing healthy balanced meals, encouraging children to cook with me, and of course baking!
- I am knowledgeable and experienced in babywearing, having worn my own 2 children for many years in a variety of carriers, and completing a peer support course enabling me to support parents in my role as a parent supporter with Cake Club, a local parenting charity.
- I have completed a Foundation Level course with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers which allows me to offer informed peer support to parents in my role within Cake Club and families I work with privately. I am confident with supporting infant feeding at all stages and knowing where to turn for my support if required.
- I am a driver with no convictions or own fault accidents, and extremely confident in my child car seat safety knowledge.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my partner of 17 years and our two children, as well as with extended family and friends. We enjoy getting outside exploring the woods and parks, mountain biking, puddle jumping, visiting the beach or farm etc. until recently we attended Forest School regularly and we love learning life skills outdoors! I am a keen cook - making anything from hearty dinners to hand rolled sushi or birthday cakes! I enjoy crafts such as embroidery, crochet and macrame when I have opportunity, and love to read particularly about birth, parenthood, education (big Montessori fan!) and romance.
My Experience
I have worked in nurseries, as a home Carer for children with cerebral palsy, as a nanny working in families homes throughout Essex and London, with a local parenting support charity Cake Club, and most recently I’ve been self-employed as a doula, birth educator and offering ad-hoc childcare.
I love nannying because it allows me to support families by developing close relationships with the whole family not just the children, and being able to provide bespoke care tailored to the families needs, preferences and childcare ethos.
