About Me
I recently graduated with a degree in Criminology and Sociology and now have a job working in the criminal justice sector. I work for a charity based at HMP Glenochil as a family support worker. This role sees me working with family members of those in custody and their children. I work hands on with the children to deliver arts and craft sessions and activities that take the focus away from the prison environment and promotes positive interaction with their parent. I also deliver a parenting course to the men in custody covering a broad range of parenting approaches.
I am a very bubbly and outgoing person who loves to spend time in the company of others. I have two younger brothers of my own and a baby cousin so I am very comfortable with younger children.
I pride myself on being a very punctual person and I have my own car to get to jobs so I won't have to rely on public transport which is also a bonus during the pandemic to reduce infection risks.
I play sports in my spare time so I am a very active person who likes to be outdoors. I also am a keen baker and cake decorator so baking is a go to activity for when I babysit.
I am also dog friendly, having 4 dogs at home so I am extremely comfortable with dogs and can help with pet requirements too if needed.
My Experience
I have been babysitting since I was 14 as a part time job, so keeping children entertained and having fun with them is something that comes naturally to myself. I have generally looked after children ranging from ages 4-8, however I do have some experience with looking after children under 12 months.
I am a current volunteer at HMP Glenochil where I work within the Family Visitation Centre working with children of all ages. My roles include assisting with the children's Sunday visitation sessions with their Dads, as well as other general childcare roles. As part of this, I have a current PVG from Disclosure Scotland.
This summer I was hired by one of Ontario's leading girls camps to teach lacrosse, kayaking and high ropes, however this was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. I am now hired for the 2021 season. As part of preparation for this job, I also have an International Child Protection Certificate.
Other relevant childcare roles include teaching at both primary and secondary schools. I have worked at the local primary school where I ran a lacrosse club with some of the pupils from P6 & P7. I also taught dance lessons to the younger high school pupils for 2 years.
My Qualifications
With my volunteering in the family centre at HMP Glenochil, I have a full PVG from Disclosure Scotland. Additionally, I have an International Child Protection Certificate I obtained for my camp job in Ontario.
My additional qualifications include the STA award in Emergency Fist Aid at work SCQF level 6 and a Mental health First Aid certificate which I have gotten from being the welfare officer for the University of Stirling's Women's Lacrosse Club for the past 2 years.
