My Summary
Honeybees Home Nursery
About Me
Hi, I’m Amy, I’m 39 years old and live with my 2 teenage boys. After years of working in the early years sector, I made the decision to become a registered childminder and opened HoneyBees Home Nursery.
Having completed a foundation degree in Early Years (Level 5) at the University of Worcester, I am now in my final year studying BA (Hons) Integrated Working with Children and Families.
To meet demand, I have recently employed an assistant who is just as passionate about early years education as I am.
At HoneyBees we are committed to getting children back to nature and out in the natural, outdoor environment in all weathers, proven to be highly beneficial for all areas of a child’s development.
We are a member of the Forest Childcare Association, regularly providing children access to woodlands and natural outdoor spaces, and we have recently began our journey to becoming Hygge in the Early Years accredited.
We like to set up imaginative sensory play scenes that spark curiosity and wonder in little ones and further enhance their learning through play.
We use resources made of natural materials that promote sustainability through childcare practice and help to connect children with nature. There are no brightly coloured plastics or interactive toys here! The more a toy does, the less a child has to use their imagination, so we use a range of natural and loose parts that offer open ended play to support development, as well as a range of wooden toys. All of which can be found in our indoor playroom.
We are also big fans of children getting messy and have a designated room solely for messy play. We recently built a sandpit in here, so that children can feel the sand beneath their feet whatever the weather outside is doing! We use a range of materials for messy and sensory play; mud, rice, oobleck, foam, water, cereals, stones, jelly, soaked chia seeds.
Our outdoor space has a mud kitchen, a shop, a play house, and water tables. We are in the process of building a water wall and a large bug hotel.
We get children involved in gardening and planting flowers, herbs, and fruit and veg, which they can later pick and help to prepare for casseroles, stews, and soups.
We are registered for tax-free childcare and government funding.
Timbertree Primary School and Nursery pick up/ drop off available, as well as school holiday club.
My Experience
I have years of experience in the childcare sector having worked in both nurseries and schools. My most recent role prior to becoming a registered childminder was at a school nursery working as an early years practitioner where I was also the mental health and well-being lead.
In addition to professional experience I have life experience through being a parent myself. Coupled with the fact that I have much younger siblings who I regularly cared for since the age of 13, gives me 25 years of hands-on experience with newborn, early years, and older children.
My Qualifications
Currently studying BA (Hons) Integrated Working with Children and Families at the University of Worcester. Other qualifications include FdA Early Years (Level 5), CACHE Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, and CACHE Level 2 Children’s Care, Learning, and Development.
Designated Safeguarding Lead training. Full Pediatric First Aid training. Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene training. I have CPD training in a wide range of areas, including Mental Health, Allergy Awareness, Speech and Language, and Managing Behavior.
