About Me
My name is Jackie and I run Abington Playhouse Early Years (childminding). I have a smaller, early years dedicated and excellently resourced setting with 2 rooms, a dedicated garden and a covered outdoor play area exclusively for children's use. I a lifetime working career in childcare, nurturing, educating and promoting the best possible outcomes for babies and young children. Being a smaller setting, I have the time and space needed to give individual attention to each child and notice the little things a child achieves then using my 37 years worldwide experience to expand those ideas and promote learning on an individual basis. Abington Playhouse is my absolute passion and it shows in the testimonials from appreciative families using my service. I have a small setting that carries a big punch. I don't look posh, certainly not glamorous but I do offer the best in terms of what my setting can achieve with your baby or young child and the love and dedication of a practitioner who offers a home from home experience.
Set in the village of Abington with direct access from the A1307, close to A11, A505 and 15 minutes from Cambridge, we have access to parks, playgroups, farms and so much more in our village. A full information pack is available upon request
My Experience
I qualified as a NNEB Nursery Nurse in 1987, I then worked as a nanny and nursery worker throughout the UK before spreading my wings to work as an international nanny. In 2004 my husband and I became registered childminders and Playhouse was born in Central Cambridge we rapidly grew to be a very successful childcare setting where we trained childcare students from Cambridge Regional College. After many successful years, my family relocated to Abington for a quieter, more laid back pace of life. I opened Abington Playhouse Early Years in September 2021 following the Covid 19 pandemic. In total I have 37 years experience working with children from newborn to aged13.

My Fees
- Childminding from £6.30 per hour
Abington Playhouse offer's 15 hours free childcare to all eligible parents with children aged 9+ months of age on any of our vacant spaces. Any hours not covered by funding is £6.30 per hour or part thereof

We contacted Jackie looking for a childcare place for our one year old at short notice, having been let down by a local nursery. We are so glad we did! Charlotte has been going to Jackie's for a year now and we have watched her grow into a confident and fun loving 2 year old. She also really loves Jackie's husband Kevin. We really like the small home from home environment that they are building. There's never too many children on any given day and they really take the time to bond and work with each child. Communication is always clear and easy and overall we can't fault them or recommend them enough! If you are looking for a local childminder I would recommend Jackie 100%.

Thank you for such kind words. We always strive to improve our setting and to know how much Charlotte has enjoyed the new resources provided to stimulate her learning is a reward to us. Charlotte is such a happy, loving, confident child always trying new experiences and leading the way in role play, following routines, art and most definitely letting me know exactly what she wants and when she is not happy with me (a particular disappointment to her is cream cheese on a rice cake when she knows sweet potato humus is in the fridge!). Charlotte gets on with everyone and is a huge part of our setting, she will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered when she moves on to nursery. It is, and for a short while yet, an absolute joy to have Charlotte with us and we are greatfull you choose us as the lucky family to work with you all.
