I’m a Psychology student at the University of Southampton with a particular interest in mental health, especially in young people. My Experience
I worked at the Gap Club as a play-worker for several years, caring for children aged 2-11 during school holidays. I gained extensive experience tailoring activities to different age ranges, encouraging sensory play and reading for younger children, and promoting creativity and exploration for older children through cooking, sports, and arts and crafts. It was incredibly rewarding to see their confidence develop over time.
During my placement at Linwood School, I worked as a SEN Teaching Assistant supporting children aged 12-14 with autism and developmental delays. I adapted activities to suit their individual needs, focusing on fostering independence, communication, and social skills. This role required patience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of each child’s unique strengths. I also provided emotional support, helping students feel confident and engaged in their learning.
I also gained valuable experience as a Nursery Assistant at Taplin’s Nursery, caring for children aged 10 months to 3 years. In this role, I supported activities that developed fine motor skills, encouraged imaginative play, and maintained close communication with parents about their child’s routines and progress.
These experiences across different settings and age groups have given me a strong foundation in childcare, allowing me to provide attentive, engaging, and age-appropriate care in babysitting roles.
