My Summary
About Me
I am Katie Foster. I am a Kind and Caring person who likes to interact with both kids and adults alike. I am helpful and trustworthy and always willing to go the extra mile. In my spare time I enjoy creative activities such as singing and songwriting, playing video games socially with friends, going on walks with my dog Demi and Spending time with my family. In October 2014 I became a voluntary young leader at 1st Virginia Water Beaver Scouts. I continued to volunteer and became Assistant Beaver Leader and an active member of the fundraising committee until June 2022 although I am still involved in smaller parts of the group. Scouting has allowed me access to different training (such as First aid) and experience working closely with others in a team. I completed both my bronze and silver dofe award and in 2017 took part in the National Citizen Service. I worked with elderly care home residents to improve their physical strength. I am very active and enjoy being busy and on my feet. I play alot of sports to keep physically active. Mainly Netball, playing for Weybridge Vandalls for over 5 years before I went to uni.
I have wanted to work with children from a young age. Even throughout my physiotherapy course I had the intention of working with pediatrics or special needs kids. I have had experience with kids with special needs from my private life and my experience in the scout group. Within the scout group I was often paired with children (Aged 6-8) with special needs such as physical disabilities and children with Autism and ADHD. Within my private life my 24-year-old brother has Autism and mental health problems which I have dealt with since a young age. Growing up with a sibling with special needs has given me a deeper insight into Autism and how to cope with his needs. I also have experience with my partners brother from the age of 7 who has Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and a rare chromosome disease named microdeletion syndrome (which affects behaviour and learning, developmental delay). I also am diagnosed with dyspraxia and dyslexia myself but do not let that hold me back. I have always had an interest in caring for children, my original career plan was to run and open my own nursery. I then believed Physiotherapy was my calling and followed this into university, but I quickly realized that physiotherapy wasn’t for me. I have decided to follow my original plan of working with children. I have had experience within nursery setting from both Work Experience at the nursery school Addlestone and in the nursery unit at Whitelodge. I am also a 1:1 special needs teaching assistant within reception class at riverbridge primary school.
