About Me
Mother works full time in cancer research for Oxford University, father is a lawyer currently on leave. Loving parents to two active boys age 7 and 2.
My Requirements
Looking for tutor with interest in special needs.
An unusual, interesting role in a family home to support the team working with an amazing neurodivergent 7 year old boy.
Background:
Z is identified as autistic with complex school-related trauma. No day with Z is the same - you may be playing computer games, going to the playground, collecting snails in the garden, going rock climbing, visit a local farm, making cakes, writing sci-fi stories or playing monopoly. You may deep dive into his special interests - currently climate change, poisonous fish and infinity. Some days Z is super engaged and focussed, other days he is non-verbal and struggle to communicate his basic needs. We accept him as he on the day and give him empathy and understanding - it's really hard being him sometimes.
Z needs a tutor that can help build up his self-confidence, sense of identity, emotional resilience, ability to self-regulate and advocate for his needs. Tutors use visuals to help Z process information and plan activities, and try to subtley slip in numeracy and literacy into his activities. Z’s education is funded by the local authority and delivered at home 4 days per week, 45 weeks per year by a small team of 3 tutors. You would have a weekly team meeting with the tutors and will receive supervision and training from an autism specialist teacher, occupational therapist and speech and language therapist.
Who are we looking for?

- Up for unpredictable days!
- No specific qualifications required, but experience of autistic children needed - note, this could be lived experience (not professional).

- Happy working unsupervised and be able to show flexibly and get on with tasks in the home as they arise.
- Willingness to carry out an Enhanced DBS check and to participate in training
- Open ended contract, but must be able to commit for minimum of 6 months.
Compensation: £35/hour self employed.
Time Commitment: 2 mornings per week, 9am-1pm, plus planning time and time for a regular meeting with other tutors. Z's education runs for 45 weeks per year.
