I have recently graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in psychology and am currently training as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner within the NHS. I am a very kind and caring individual, and love working with children. I really enjoy getting to know and building a relationship with the children I look after so that I can make sure that their time spent with me is super fun for both of us! I am super patient and encouraging when it comes to helping children with their homework - I always like to have a game or activity ready for them to do as a reward for when we have completed their homework so that they have a little incentive to push through those tricky maths questions! Some of my favourite activities to do with children are outdoors, from lovely long walks in the woods, to running and climbing around in the park, to simple games such as tag - the possibilities are endless! I know that sometimes the weather can get in the way, though, and being outdoors isn't for everyone, but that's fine because I love board games, baking and reading, so I'm sure I will be able to create an activity that your children will love!
My Experience
Whilst at university, I ran an after-school club at an infant school every day from 3-6 pm. I was responsible for planning and organising a range of different activities for the children every day, including sports, arts and crafts and baking. The children in the club were all super fond of lego, so every Thursday became 'lego club', where the children were in groups and had to work together to build something which fit the theme of each week, for example, one week we did superhero cities, and another we did zoos and farms! I was also responsible for making simple snacks for each of the children every day, such as wraps, sandwiches, pasta, fruit, veg, etc. I loved this role and really enjoyed getting to know all of the children and creating different fun and engaging activities for the children every day.
I also worked for a family for a year and babysat their two young boys 4 times per week. I was responsible for picking them up from school, helping with homework, getting them ready for bed, taking them to clubs and also just providing general overall entertainment! I stayed over once per week as well in order to do the bed time routine and take the children to school the next morning.
I have a twelve-year-old brother at home too, who I have often looked after since he was about 5 years old. Babysitting my brother often involves picking him up from school and taking him to any clubs, cooking him dinner, helping him with his homework, playing games with him, and making sure that he is in bed on time. My brother has ADHD, therefore I am used to dealing with extremely hyper and sometimes difficult behaviour, and am confident in being able to deal with it.
When I was in sixth form, I also tutored GCSE students in several different subjects and helped them to work on areas which they were struggling with, and helped them to gain more skill and confidence in these subjects before their exams.
My Qualifications
I have a full DBS check and am trained in paediatric first aid. Whilst I do not have any formal childcare qualifications, I can assure you that I have plenty of experience in looking after children, and am trustworthy and reliable.
