Curious Cubs Childminding Club
About Me
**Full time places now AVAILABLE at Curious Cubs** Hi, I'm Kerry; I'm a mum of two, a level 6 Ofsted registered childminder (from 0-8yrs), a qualified primary school teacher (Bachelor Degree in Education) with 15 years experience (including EYFS) and I live in a child-centred house brimming with resources, toys and open ended play activities.
I live with my partner, Jon and our two children, our daughter (5) and our son (2).
As a family we decided it was time for me to dedicate some much needed time away from the pressures of a school/teaching career and use all of my expertise, experience and knowledge of teaching children to open my own childminders to support working families in need of a lovely setting for their children to attend.
Welcome to Curious Cubs Childminding Club!
We have a cosy home-from-home environment that is completely centred around children. It is a safe, exciting and happy home where we share a love for singing, dancing, arts and crafts, creative play and stories (we love books!). We visit our local library weekly and our activities are all tailored to the children's interests.
We live close to Victoria Park, at the very top of King Edward Road and I do wrap-around care (school pick ups and drop offs) for Millhouse Primary and Nursery School, as that is where my daughter attends. I also provide full time care from 8am-6pm for pre-schoolers.
We have a lovely garden where the children enjoy being curious adventurers and they help to grow and nurture the flowers. We are also very lucky to have a large playroom, full of gross motor equipment, open ended and high quality resources and lots of space for play. All learning and play is practical, fun and purposeful. I have previous experience in Montessori nurseries and forest schools and I implement these ways of learning and developing into my own practice. Children are taken out daily to playgrounds, forests and parks, for gross motor play and exploring. I have annual memberships with the zoo and the farm. I promote healthy eating and allow children to participate in making their lunch.
Send me a message if we sound like the perfect family home for your little one and we can book you in for a viewing of how we play at Curious Cubs Childminding Club.
My Experience
As a mum myself, I have newborn experience of two children but I am also a primary school teacher by profession. After having my children I understood the difficulties of working full time whilst juggling motherhood and running a home, therefore, I decided to use my skills to retrain as a childminder and work from home, enabling me to spend time with my son and still be able to take/collect my daughter from school. I want to be the help that I received when I returned to work and left my children with a lovely childminder.
I have extensive knowledge and many years experience of the EYFS curriculum and I am passionate about working with children. I have carried out school baseline assessments and assessed children against the development matters criteria. I have ongoing training and first hand teaching experience of synthetic phonics and have planned and delivered engaging phonics lessons for years, leading to the year 1 phonics screening tests. I have taught and prepared for SATS, both in year two and six. I enjoy teaching a creative curriculum that is child-led and inspired, with curiosity at the heart. I have extensive experience with children with multiple behaviour and learning difficulties and I am able to utilise a calm and understanding approach to such needs. Every child is different, every child matters and the welfare and happiness of the children is paramount.
I also have many years experience (before qualifying as a teacher) as a children's entertainer, a drama club leader for primary school children and working as a Learning Support Assistant for children with additional needs in a primary school.
I come from a large family with many younger siblings, nieces and nephews, so a love for childcare has always been present since I was younger and has always come naturally to me. We have a happy home full of laughter and curiosity.

We couldn't be happier with Kerry as our childminder for our 3-year-old son. In just two weeks, our little one has settled in so well, and it's all thanks to Kerry's warm and nurturing care.
Kerry's activities are not only fun but incredibly engaging. Our son genuinely looks forward to his time with her each day. What impresses us most is how seamlessly Kerry has transitioned from being an ex-teacher to a childminder. Her skills and knowledge are evident in the way she interacts with our son, fostering his love for learning.
We feel so fortunate to have found Kerry, and we can already see the positive impact she's having on our son's development. Her dedication and genuine care shines through, making it easy for us to trust her with our most precious treasure. Thank you, Kerry, for providing such a loving and enriching environment for our child.
