My Summary
About Me
Hi there, my name is Fahtima I have in school teaching experience as well as a private tutor, ranging from pre-school to GCSE in English up to GCSE level, but I can also offer tuition in most mainstream subjects up to and including KS3. I have extensive knowledge of the current curriculum and examining boards in the U.K.
As someone who works in a mainstream school and understands the fast pace of the classroom and the challenges that can arise when trying to provide individualised attention to every student, I recognise the valuable difference a tutor can make in helping children catch up at their own pace, build confidence in their abilities and fill in any gaps in learning. As someone who has also benefitted through tutoring as a child, I hope to make the same difference to other children and their families.
I am flexible and can conduct tutoring sessions both online and face-to-face. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
My Experience
During my time at university, I joined Action tutoring, a charity supporting disadvantaged children through learning. I volunteered as a tutor at both Primary and Secondary schools to support underprivileged children in preparation for their Sats and GCSE's. I delivered weekly one-to-one and group English lessons to help improve their academic ability and develop their confidence in English.
After finishing my Master’s, I worked as a KS1 Teaching assistant where I carried out one-to-one and group interventions in the core subjects as well as reading and phonics. When carrying out phonics interventions, my main focuses have been teaching letter-sound relationships, blending, segmenting, and decoding words. I also supported Year 2 and Year 6 students in preparation for their SATS.
Currently, I am an English academic mentor in a secondary school where I plan and deliver effective and engaging small group and one-to-one tutoring sessions tailored to pupils’ specific needs. I monitor and track students' progress, identifying areas that require additional attention and improvement. I have an excellent understanding of the current literature being taught at both KS3 and GCSE level.
