My Summary
Montessori Educator: Parent Consultant, Tutor & Homeschool Teacher Helping Children Build Confidence
About Me
As a passionate educator with nearly 20 years of experience, I specialise in helping children develop a love for learning, particularly in Maths and English. I use proven, hands-on methods to engage children and make learning fun, helping them build confidence and independence. My approach is Montessori-based, focusing on practical, child-led learning that encourages curiosity and understanding. This method uses interactive materials that help children connect with concepts in a way that feels natural and enjoyable.
I work with children as young as 2 years old, right up to age 11, providing tailored support to help them succeed in their early years. Whether it's preparing for the transition to primary school, fostering independence with daily tasks like getting dressed, or building essential skills in numeracy and literacy, I aim to make learning a rewarding and engaging experience. I also have extensive experience working with children who have special educational needs (SEN), using Montessori techniques to adapt lessons to their individual needs, helping them build confidence and make progress at their own pace.
For example, I’ve had the joy of helping a child progress from having no knowledge of phonics to reading vowel sounds and 16-page books within a year. I’ve also worked with children who initially struggled with low confidence, including a child with dyslexia who, over time, developed a much stronger sense of self-belief and pride in their abilities, expressing that they were "much smarter than they thought."
With my approach, children are not just learning facts, they are building the skills, confidence, and mindset needed for lifelong success. Many of the children I’ve worked with have gone on to excel in their next stages of education, entering their schools of choice with strong foundations in both academic and life skills.
My Experience
I began my Montessori career in 2007 at Rose House Montessori, a school for children aged 2 to 11. Although I spent most of my time working with children aged 2 to 6 as Head of Early Years/Children’s House, I also worked closely with the elementary aged children (primary school), helping them develop strong foundational skills. In 2021, I became the Director of Education at Rose House, overseeing the learning and curriculum for the entire school. During my time there, the school was featured multiple times in Montessori Centre International magazines for its outstanding work, and I was proud to be a key contributor to its success.
Sadly, the school closed down, but many of the elementary children transitioned to homeschooling, and I have continued working with them in that capacity. The relationships we built and the progress the children made were so valuable that their parents wanted to continue with the Montessori education we had established. Watching these children thrive, from mastering early phonetics to confidently moving on to their schools of choice without the pressure of tests or homework, has been incredibly rewarding.
With nearly 20 years of experience, I’ve also worked extensively with children with special educational needs (SEN), using Montessori methods to tailor learning to their unique needs. I’ve seen children blossom under this approach, including an older child with dyslexia who initially lacked confidence in their reading ability. Over time, their reading improved, and they told me with pride, "I’m much smarter than I thought."
Currently, I work as a Montessori homeschool teacher and parent consultant, focusing on children aged 5 to 11, particularly those aged 5 to 8. I offer personalised one-to-one Maths and English tutoring, helping children build strong foundations while making learning enjoyable. One of my favourite examples is seeing a child progress from having no knowledge of phonetics to reading vowel sounds and 16-page books within a year. Parents often notice remarkable changes in their child's confidence and curiosity after our sessions, and many of the children I’ve worked with have gone on to thrive in the next stages of their education.
In addition to one-to-one tutoring, I run weekly group Maths and English sessions for children aged 4 to 8, using hands-on Montessori materials to make learning engaging and interactive. I also manage holiday camps for children aged 3 to 6, where I combine learning and play to keep children curious and enthusiastic. My varied experience in both formal education and homeschooling enables me to provide a supportive, personalised learning experience that helps children grow academically and emotionally.
