My Summary
About Me
I have recently graduated from the University of York. Currently working as a SEN Teaching Assistant, I will be available on evenings and weekends. This job, as well as other experiences working with children have motivated me towards a career which instigates positive changes for families.
My Experience
I am currently employed as a SEN Teaching Assistant at Applefields Secondary school. I have experience with Primary and Secondary school children with a diverse set of additional needs. Putting the child’s needs at the heart of everything I do is at the core of my personal and professional values.
I have previously recently been employed as a Nanny, in which I collected primary school-age child from school, supervised them in their house, and drove them and their siblings to their swimming lessons, and other commitments they had.
I also have experience working as an Activity Leader for Schools Out during the school summer holidays (2023- current), a camp for children aged 4-12. Activity leaders are responsible for organising creative activities such as baking, crafts, archery, games and performing. We take responsibility for supervising the children at all times, providing a safe environment and being quick to call out unacceptable behaviour.
I have volunteered to tutor music primary school- age children at Ipswich Summer music course (2014-2019) and at Sunday school groups at church.
These experiences have shown me the importance of compassion, empathy and respect when working with children. Through leading activities, encouraging group work and teaching music, I have learnt how to effectively listen to a child, and be adaptable to cater for their needs. Listening to their worries, building trust, confidence, and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone, makes working with children extremely rewarding. Prioritising their needs, providing comfort and reassurance to children and their families is what motivates me towards a career in childcare.
