I was a volunteer reader with BookPALS while living in Los Angeles, California. Part of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s literacy program. I visited and read to high-risk children in disadvantaged schools. Connecting through the shared experience of reading made me realise the importance of showing care and understanding when developing connections with children.
