I’m Zoe, Mum to two young boys and owner of Otter Explorers childminding.
My Experience
I’m a qualified primary school teacher and have spent the past seven years teaching at a local school by the sea, three of which as a senior leader responsible for our schools reading and phonics curriculum. I have a passion for all things early years, reading, play and being outdoors. We love spending time exploring outdoors all year round in all weathers! Splash suits and wellies are a daily staple in our setting!!
I pride myself in providing a home from home where children will be welcomed into a safe, friendly and happy environment. The happiness and well-being of the children in my care is my priority, and I work closely with parents/carers to ensure they have the highest standard of care. I am a member of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY), which means I am supported to provide this high level of care and continuous professional development.
I work out of our home and garden, but also enjoy going for days out in our local community. We are fortunate to have memberships to Bicton Park & Botanical gardens and Wildwood Devon, as well as frequently visiting the library, Haldon forest and local toddler groups. My home is equipped with a range of age appropriate resources which the children are able to easily access, letting them follow their own interests and develop their play. I believe strongly in using open ended, meaningful items to support children’s play. I have previously been lucky enough to attend training with @abcdoes , which inspired me to think very carefully about which resources are on offer and our invitations to play. I use gentle parenting techniques and have a largely child led approach.
We are open 7.45am - 5.45pm but can be flexible around this. Please let me know if you have any questions!
My Qualifications
BEd (First class honours) in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status
I have also completed Ofsted approved childcare training, such as Preparing to Work in Home-based Childcare (EYFS), Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Child Protection, Food Safety and Hygeine, Autism level 2, and many more.
