About Me

My name is Marie, I am 31 years old. I am from Weston-super-Mare.

I have over 16 years of experience but no formal childcare qualifications.

I have a current DBS on the Update system (valid from June/July 2022), have Emergency First Aid at Work (valid until October 2025), have Level 2 and 3 Safeguarding in ELT (I was a DSL/welfare officer in a previous role, valid until October 2025 and 2024 respectively)

I do not mind pets as I have had many growing up (mainly cats and rodents), and I have experience of caring for dogs and horses.

I drive and have my own car (small hatchback), licence held for 4½ years - happy to share my driving licence information via the gov site.

I am CELTA qualified, worked in a Montessori school in Italy for 4 years, have au paired 5 times, have nanny-ed 3 times, and have experience with all ages (newborn to 17), cultures, abilities, multiples, additional needs, religions, various languages, medical needs etc.

My Experience

I have been a nanny three times, in the UK, and a live-in au pair; once in Iceland, three times in Italy (Sicilia and Piemonte), and once in Slovenia. I have always had an innate maternal instinct and have found working with children to be the most rewarding role possible.

I began my experience in 2007 as a babysitter for a family friend’s two daughters, who were five and nine years old when I started. I am still in contact with them and regard them as family. (Happy to reference)

It was in 2007 that I completed my Year 10 Work Experience within a Year 1 classroom.

In 2010 my ‘nephew’ was born and I was heavily involved during the first 18 months of his life, this was initially to assist his parents while the father was terminally ill but we have continued our relationship. Since I have come back to the UK, I relish the opportunity to spend time with him whether it be helping with maths homework or having an ‘Auntie Marie’ day and sleepover. (Happy to reference)

My first job as a nanny commenced in 2012 and was for a family with children who were aged 5 and 4. I would do the morning routine, take the children to and from school and nursery, care for the pets - a cat and two horses, do household chores, prepare meals for the children, assist with spellings homework, bathe them, and settle them for bed with a story. We would often go to the park and during school holidays we would go to activity days.

My first experience abroad was in 2012, in Iceland for a family with five children who were aged 14, 11, 6, and 3 year old twins. I was predominantly with either the eldest - who has Cerebral Palsy and needs 24 hour care - or the twins. I also became a weekend personal carer for the eldest child. With the eldest I would clean, change, and dress her as well as give her her medication. I would collect the twins from nursery, and sometimes the 6 year old from sports clubs. I would take them to the park, the bakery, for walks, or play at home. I would often cook dinner for the children before preparing the eldest for the night. (Happy to reference)

My first experience in Italy was in Marsala for two children aged 12 and 10. I was there to assist with their English during the summer holidays; we would play games, go to the beach, ride bikes, and play tennis. (Happy to reference)

My second au pair experience was for a family of four in Piemonte, Italy. I was with the family from September 2014 until they moved to the USA in November 2016. The daughters were born 2013 and 2015. I was often in sole charge of the children and was responsible for; changing nappies, assisting with potty training, cooking, feeding, and taking the eldest to nursery, amongst other tasks. My main purpose was to help with raising the children as bilingual, with the eldest being able to understand Italian and English completely as well as being almost verbally fluent. I still maintain a relationship with the family and will be escorting them around the UK this summer. The dad officially published my moniker of 'Marie Poppins' in a book he wrote. (Happy to reference)

My third experience was with the owner of the Montessori school that I worked at, she had 2 children born 2013 and 2015, I was with them from December 2016 until June 2019. (Happy to reference)

On a summer break, I was a live-out nanny for an Emirati family, in London, in July and August of 2017. The children were 8 (with Down's Syndrome), 6, and 1 year. I would take them to city-farms, parks, theatre performances, attractions, travelled with the family to Paris, and escorted the middle child to summer camp. I did this in tandem with a friend from Italy.

My final au pair experience was a short-lived one, in Slovenia, lasting only 2 weeks in 2019. This was due to a severe foot injury that I had and I needed to return home. The children were 8 year old twins and a 4 year old. The short time we had together was great - we played games, I read to them, baked with them, and would observe them playing in the pool.

I was an assistant and then teacher at a Montessori elementary and middle school, in Piemonte - I was there from 2015-2019. I assisted in their afternoon English sessions where we play games, sing songs, have introduced materials, and work on projects. I ended up teaching the middle school students too and took them on a week-long trip to London to enhance their education.

Most recently, I was a live-out nanny for a family friend, in 2021, when his wife had injured her foot. They have 4 children; 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2020, one has additional needs. I have become very close to the children and am still active in their lives, known as Auntie Marie. (Happy to reference)

I am still in contact with the families in Iceland, Sicily, and both from Piemonte, I maintain lovely relationships with them.

Age range of experience; newborn to 17 years old (and every age in between).

I can provide multiple references.
