My Summary
About Me
I love being out doors whatever the weather. I like to find fun and learning in nature.
I'm married and we have an amazing 14 year old Daughter who attends the local secondary school. My husband works for Dorset Police and predominately works from home squirrelled away in his office upstairs.
I'm loving my childminding journey and during the past 10 years I have been blessed with incredible children and families. I have completed many child development courses over the years and I'm constantly learning new ways and taking on new ideas. I'm very much into the curiosity approach mixed with a bit of Hygge, a bit of forest school and a bit of my own crazy magic.
My setting is a safe, friendly and stimulating environment in which children feel valued, can play, learn and develop. We have always made the most of the outdoors but seem to be spending more time outside than inside. This has proved hugely beneficial during the Coronavirus pandemic as being outside is the safest place to be.
The location of my setting is ideal for out door fun. At the front of my house is a large grassed area, to the rear there is a large park whch is fully equipped for children of all ages. Beyond the park is an open grass area, pump track and football pitch. The Rodwell Trail is on my doorstep and leads to several beaches, Sandsfoot Castle, The Nothe Fort and the Swannery. I have an allotment in walking distance which allows me to grow all kinds of wonderful things with my little helpers. Once a week we generally meet with my childminder friend and have a forest school inspired morning. We pretty much do everything outside that we do inside for example we create arts and crafts wherever we are we don't need to be sat the the table.
In my setting we have a large dedicated playroom that leads directly out to a decked area with mud kitchen and little wooden house that the children can access freely. I have a gate that leads to the rest of my garden that the children and I can explore together, there's a trapeze, tree swing, raised pond with lots of frogs, bug hotel, covered snug area, some fruit and vegetables growing, secret paths in the trees and bushes.
Inside we keep toys to a minimum preferring loose parts and real life objects that I have collected over the years from various car boot sales, treasure shops (charity shops) and friends and relatives. The children inspire me and the space reflects their interests. We bake together in my kitchen and most of the time enjoy eating what we have made, sometimes there's even some left that they can take home to share and enjoy.
You can get a feel for what we get up to on my facebook page Rebeccas Busy Little Bees childminding.
If you are interested in getting in touch its worth noting that I don't work Fridays, I like weekends to be family time and having Fridays free makes that possible.
I look forward to hearing from you!
My Experience
10 years in the job, many courses completed since I have been a childminder. I'm constantly inspired to keep learning because the children are always changing and growing and no two children are the same. Previous to being a childminder I have worked in many different roles none working directly with children but all have given me skills to do the job I do now. After leaving school I went to University and got myself a degree in Sociology and Politics.
