My Experience

CURRENTLY ON MATERNITY LEAVE

I currently work in a primary school as a SEN 1:1 teaching assistant.
I have worked in a day nursery in Letchworth in the 2-3's age group but do have experience with the other age groups such as under 2's (babies) toddlers, and 3-5's as ratios needed to be kept. I had 10 key children in the 2-3's and completed their learning journals each week. Some duties of working at the day nursery were; feeding the children breakfast, lunch and dinner, completing weekly planning, toilet and nappy changing, writing daily sheets for parents, putting children to sleep for their nap etc..

I have worked in a Pre-School setting for 5 years and have attended many training courses whilst working there. The children range from the ages of 2-4 years. Duties of working at the pre-school include attending to the children's toileting needs, keeping up with the cleanliness and tidying up if the pre-school, attending curriculum planning meetings, keeping learning journals of which shows the development of each child, taking children on school trips and outings in the local area, liaising with parents daily and with other professionals. As I am the Pre-Schools SENCO I am required to write I.E.P'S and complete I.E.A.L.D'S. I also take a small group of children daily to input English language and to develop their attention and listening skills.

I have worked one to one with a child who has some special needs, to maintain his safety and fulfil his full potential whilst in our care at school.

I also worked as a respite carer for a young adult who has special needs. My duties included weekend stays and taking her to activities that she would like to fulfil ie... cinema, theatre etc.... this is freelance.

I also babysit for families from the Pre-School that i work at. One family quite regularly of which the children are aged 7, 6, 4 and 2 years old, 3 boys and 1 girl one of which had been diagnosed with autism.

I have also worked in a secondary school for a year as a science teaching assistant of pupils which were of a challenging behaviour. Years 7-9.
