About Me
****Graded outstanding under the new education inspection framework for the 3rd time****
Wednesday and Friday availability from September
My name is Susan Walker, i am a registered childminder in Longbenton. I work along side my daughter Claire, and Faye who is also registered childminding assistant.
All funding is offered on a flexible basis with no additional charges
I live in a 3 bedroom terraced house, children have access to all downstairs including enclosed back garden, also upstairs toilet and bathroom and 2 of the bedrooms if needed for travel cot. We work from a purpose build summerhouse in the garden and have free access to the fully enclosed outdoor space which is decked and artificial turf so is suitable for all weathers. I am within walking distance to HMRC, Quorum business park and BT call centre, also close to local bus and metro services.
I started childminding in 2004, I had planned on it being a temporary job until I returned to my previous catering mangager role once my youngest was in full time school, however I was blown away with childminding and loved the fact I could achieve so much with young children and help support the parents too, I then decided I would continue my professional development and completed my level 3, continued on to do NCMA quality first, then started my foundation degree in early years. I have had 3 graded inspections and just been given my 2nd outstanding grading
Childminding has changed over the years and the role of the childminder is as important as ever, but with recent research showing the importance of how the early years experiences help structure a child's future it is even more important for the childminder to be aware of this, EYFS was first brought in, in 2008 then revamped in 2012, most childminders welcomed the introduction of a guidance to help show we are supporting children to their full potential, one of my strong points I feel is the ability to implement EYFS fully whilst still ensuring I provide the home environment where children can relax, join in with family life and enjoy being a child.
I love the outdoors and we share a community allotment space with some fellow childminders, I make use of all the local parks and play areas. We visit soft play and museums and enjoy trips to the beach, we make use of the metro system for most of your outings.
Our garden is child friendly and accessible at in all weathers using protective clothing I provide.
.
Children under 5 follow the EYFS framework whilst in my setting and is recorded using babysdays software, enabling parents easy access to their child's everyday activities, learning, photos and invoicing as well as the settings policies and procedures.

Susie has looked after our daughter from her being 10 months old until she started Reception this year and still provides invaluable wraparound care. Susie, Claire and Faye offer wonderful home-from-home care, flexibility and are significant adults in our daughter's life. She has learnt and developed so much in their care. We are forever grateful for your support for our family over the past 5 years.
Unreliable person who give you an appointment for a call and doesn't answer the phone. I explained that due to work commitments it would have been important to set up things straight but she ignored my messages. Waste of time and lack of transparency because if there is no space available or we have to reschedule the call it is rude to keep people hanging.
Susie has been looking after Finlay for 6 months now and he absolutely LOVES going. I know he’s so well looked after and he always has the best time xxxx
5 stars doesn’t even come close to the rating Susie and her daughter deserve!!!
Susie and Claire have looked after my son for 4 months now, we came to Susie looking for emergency childcare due to a failed prior placement. Susie restored my faith in childminders immediately! My son is a different child thanks to her care! He cuddles Susie on a morning and smiles. As a parent this is the most reassuring sign as he never used to do this at his other placement.
Susie is extremely professional. She is the care I had so craved for my son. She provides the loving, warm, happy, stimulating environment every parent wants for their child while they work. I have always felt comfort knowing Susie and Claire look after my son the way I would.
Susie communicates everything my child has done/eaten/slept etc etc. Information is never difficult to get hold of from Susie as she uses the baby’s days app. She kindly uploads photos of your child, which when you’re on a 12hour shift it’s reassuring to see what your child is up to!
Nothing is ever too much trouble for Susie, she has often swapped days for me due to my rota changing. She’s very flexible and accommodating.
I can not recommend this lady enough! I’m so pleased I found her! :)
I came to work in Newcastle for six months with my (then) 9 month old, leaving my family, friends and support network back in Nottingham.
When I came for a visit the children in Susie's care were well looked after, happy and calm, they kept offering toys to my son who appeared very 'at home' in the new surroundings.
Susie is very warm and caring, as is Claire who works with her. I could see from the online journal that Oliver was involved in many varied, age-appropriate and stimulating activities and, with Susie's catering background, he had lots of home cooked meals and we are certainly not troubled with a fussy eater!
Having Susie look after Oliver meant that I could relax knowing that he was safe and happy and very well looked after while I was working and really added to my lovely experience up in Newcastle.
Thank you Susie, you do an amazing job xx
